“We have four Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijan. Two of them are citizens of the Republic of Armenia, one is a citizen of Artsakh, and one is a citizen of Russia, ethnic Armenian Marat Ueldanov,” said the candidate for head of the Human Rights and Public Affairs Committee, Naira Zohrabyan, responding to a question asked by Prosperous Armenia deputy Arman Abovyan.
Regarding what the committee needs to do to solve this issue, Naira Zohrabyan said, “If I were to say that we have a serious tools to solve this issue, it would not be true. Publicizing issues more than necessary tends to cause problems. We simply need to pay attention to this problem, and try to receive information through the Red Cross without causing excessive attention.”
According to Zohrabyan, Armenia has three different numbers regarding the number of people missing. According to data provided by the Ministry of Defense, Armenia has 320 people missing. According to the Red Cross, there are 400 people missing (this international organization presents its data based on the number of families), and according to the Foundation Against the Violation of the Law, Armenia has approximately 900 people missing.
The work of the parliamentary committee here will be to remain attentive.
Arman Abovyan reminded that it sometimes happens that prisoners are killed, such as Manvel Saribekyan. Naira Zohrabyan responded that Armenia is collaborating with the Human Rights Defender of Artsakh.
