The 100th anniversary of outstanding Armenian poetess Silva Kaputikyan is a wonderful occasion to commemorate and express words of gratitude and honor for the great Armenian intellectual.
With her brilliant literary debut at the age of twenty, she became the center of attention and admiration of many readers, while the “Word to My Son” poem, written at the age of 24, received nationwide recognition. The pivotal poem became a kind of banner and slogan of patriotism and Armenian identity both at home and in the Diaspora. As early as in 1959, she assumed the challenging task of protecting the rights of Artsakh, well aware that the path to freedom would be thorny.
Silva Kaputikyan lived her life in caring for her people, all its layers. Her prose, journalism, her social and political activities deserve not only a universal assessment, but also a thorough study. I am convinced that the new generation will find in them a lot of instructive stuff.
Congratulations to the fans of the great poetess and all literature lovers on this beautiful anniversary.
