“We must recognize that as a genocide. It was the continuation of the genocide,” the head of the Armenian Democratic Party, Aram Sargsyan, said in reference to the pogroms against Armenians in Baku in 1990. “The other events that took place in Azerbaijan, including the deportation of Armenians from Nakhichevan and the Sumgait and Gandzak pogroms, were genocidal operations, and they need to be given the proper evaluation,” Aram Sargsyan said.
He believes that the results of the genocidal actions Azerbaijan took against Armenians need to be presented to the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs so that they can understand that Artsakh cannot be a part of Azerbaijan. “They turn people like Safarov into heroes, and those like him who decapitate Armenians, too… it’s time that we review our policies towards the resolution of the Artsakh conflict.”
Azerbaijan carried out pogroms of Armenians living in Baku in January of 1990. The number of casualties is over 400, and there are people still missing.
