Gevorg Gorgisyan: Ruling force strengthened Prosperous Armenia’s position supposedly as opposition

The Prosperous Armenia party brought three bills into circulation. One will include the ability to pay to be released for those who have avoided military service.

Spokeswoman of the Bright Armenia party Ani Samsonyan presented the bills her party had placed into circulation last week. There were three of them: “For Citizens Who Did Not Go Complete Military Service as Expected,” a plan to change parts of the Criminal Code to include the General Prosecutor and lawyers having equal legal rights, and the third being Edmon Marukyan’s plan that was rejected in the former parliament, where one day of imprisonment would be equal to 1.5 days.

The first bill is for citizens who have avoided military service. It would make the length of their service longer if they are able to pay and be free of criminal liability. During the last parliament, former Ministry of Defense Vigen Sargsyan was against that system. He said that those who avoided service need to return and to serve. The next plan was created in order to prevent problems in lawyers’ activities and to give them the same legal rights as the General Prosecutor. Giving lawyers problems would result in a fine of 200-300 times the minimum salary, or 1-3 year imprisonment.

Secretary of the party Gevorg Gorgisyan added that the party continues to be dissatisfied with the election of Vice Speaker. “That election was shameful.” He repeated that the parliament’s majority did not give any basis as to why they voted for Vahe Enfiajyan. Taking into consideration the fact that the Vice Speaker is also a member of the parliamentary council, Gorgisyan said, “It was preferable for the majority to give Prosperous Armenia the proper leverages and strengthen its position as the
