‘Conspiracies are impossible and thinking about that is absurd’: Nikol Pashinyan regarding meeting with Ilham Aliyev

January 23,2019 19:35

During the Davos 2019 World Economic Forum in Switzerland, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan had a meeting. Pashinyan does not consider this meeting to be an official beginning to any negotiations. He spoke about this during a “Conversation with Citizens” Facebook livestream.

Nikol Pashinyan announced that this meeting had not been planned. “This is my third meeting and conversation with Ilham Aliyev, and such meetings were not planned in the past either. There is an issue of us discussing problems when we are both participating in the same events.”

The Prime Minister continued, “We came to an agreement during this meeting that if we are in the same place, we will not avoid a meeting.”

Nikol Pashinyan said that, during his meeting with the Azeri president, they discussed the negotiations process. “We are not discussing any specific details. We are simply exchanging thoughts on our understandings of the negotiations process. The main part of our discussions is what we speak about publicly.”

“Conspiracies are impossible and it’s even absurd to think about that,” Nikol Pashinyan said regarding comments on this and previous meetings, as well as the entire Artsakh conflict negotiations process.
