According to the Eurasian economic customs legislation, the amount of goods an individual can transport without being taxed has changed as of January 1st. According to the law, individuals used to be able to transport 50 kilograms of goods without being taxed, but that now has been decreased to 25 kilograms. Ananyan spoke about this during a recent press conference, however, after the latest government session, he spoke to reporters about it once again.
“We limited the amount of goods one can bring to 50 kg last year, and we saw at the end of the year that people saw this as a shortcut to establish businesses. We were wondering what we could do, and the EAEU’s law helped us out,” Ananyan said. He said that the problem needs to be regulated and that the 25-kilogram rule needs to be enforced.
Many citizens have been having issues lately because they brought goods in accordance with previous regulations, and now a portion of that needs to be taxed. Regarding this, Ananyan said, “People say that they didn’t know. I came to an agreement with Artur Vanetsyan that if they didn’t know, and objective cases took place, then we should perhaps make an announcement that this is the law now and we will begin to enforce it.”
