“The Aram 23 problem has finally been resolved,” head of Yerevan architecture Artur Meschian said during a press conference, adding, “An agreement will be signed between the property’s landlord, Hekekyan, and the Ministry of Culture. Constructors will give 14 million AMD to an Italian architect, who will be coming from Italy to carry out the project.”
Meschian said, “I am happy that Lucio Pozzi will be coming to fix Aram 23, but I would have been happier if churches’ walls were renovated, too. Lucio Pozzi did not come to fix our churches’ walls, which collapsed and which have greater value, but at least we will be able to solve the Aram 23 problem. All sides need to calm down now.”
Meschian was surprised that a lot of controversy surrounded the Aram 23 wall, when there were other cases that had human casualties which did not raise such controversy. “That wall will be reconstructed, and the building will be restored. Don’t worry. When I said that no monument will be torn down in Yerevan, people misunderstood this to mean that I’m at fault if some part of a structure falls apart. Sorry, I am unable to follow the situation surrounding every statue. My responsibility is simply to ensure that no statue in Yerevan gets torn down.”
The Aram 23 building in Yerevan serves as a historical-cultural site where the “Little Singers” group performs. On January 11th, the wall of this building collapsed.
