On January 22, 2019, the upperclassmen of Mesrobian High School had the opportunity to participate in a health education program composed of theoretical and practical activities.
Our students attended a very crucial lecture, which was dedicated to Sudden Cardiac Arrest among the young people. The lecturer was Dr. Fouad Hajj, cardiologist at Hôtel Dieu. The students asked numerous questions to the lecturer, who at the end of his speech advised them to stay away from the habits that are harmful to the health, and especially to the heart (use of alcohol and cigarette), to follow a healthy diet, practice sports, and absolutely, undergo at least once a heart examination at an early age.
Afterward, the students of Mesrobian participated in the CPR training.
The sponsor of this initiative was Yohan, the Youth Association aiming to raise awareness for Sudden Cardiac Arrest, which was founded in memory of Yohan Harouny, a medical student who died at the age of 19 due to a Sudden Cardiac Arrest. His parents decided to transform their deep sorrow into a mission, by establishing this association to help the youth and prevent similar tragedies.
Co-founder of the association, Yohan’s Mother Dr. Rita Tchoukhadarian Harouny, delivered a speech, in which she emphasized on the importance of precautionary tests, which could have a crucial importance on discovering the hidden heart defects and preventing the premature deaths.
Let us remind that based on the initiative of Yohan Association, free ECG heart examinations for young people (15-35 years old) are organized throughout Lebanon. On January 26, regular examinations will be held at Notre Dame De Narek Medical and Social Center, in Alishan Center, between 9:30 AM-4:00 PM.
