Artur Vardanyan not released on 1 million AMD bail in Nork-Marash armed group case

January 25,2019 16:34

Levon Baghdasaryan, who is the lawyer of the head of the Nork-Marash armed group Artur Vardanyan, presented an intermediation case that would change Vardanyan’s deterrence method. He suggested that Vardanyan either provide his signature promising to not leave the country, or he would be released on a 1 million AMD bail. Judge Bektashyan ruled to reject this offer due to it being unfounded.

The lawyer has presented intermediation several times for Vardanyan’s case, which has all been rejected.

The court session was postponed until February 8th.

The Court of General Jurisdiction of the Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts of Yerevan opened a case against the armed group that was neutralized in November of 2015. According to the indictment, the group illegally purchased and stored weapons in a home in the Nork-Marash district of Yerevan. The group was led by Armenian citizen Artur Vardanyan, and the group’s mission was to kill senior Armenian officials and carry out other terrorist attacks in Armenia. Twenty people have been charged throughout the scope of the case, some of whom include former senior officials and public political figures.
