During the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, discussions were held regarding the “Worsening situation of opposition politicians in Turkey: what to do to protect their fundamental rights in a Council of Europe member State?” debate. While Naira Zohrabyan was speaking about the process to take away immunity from Armenian-Turkish deputy Garo Paylan, and requesting the Assembly to interfere and not allow that to happen, Turkish delegate Serap Yasar started to hurl accusations at Armenia.
She said, “I am surprised by Armenian deputy Naira Zohrabyan’s speech about democracy in Turkey and pressure placed on deputies. Now let me ask her a question: can you compare democracy in Turkey to democracy in your country, and can you show us one Turkish deputy in your parliament? The Turkish parliament has three Armenian deputies.”
When Naira Zohrabyan was leaving the hall where PACE sessions take place, head of the Azeri delegation Samad Seyidov said, “The more Naira Zohrabyan makes herself look beautiful on the outside, the more intolerable her personality becomes.”
