Hayk Marutyan regarding plans for Yerevan Metro stations: ‘There are counts that were made in 1985’

January 30,2019 16:22

On January 24th, the head architect of Yerevan Arthur Meschian spoke during a press conference about plans to build two new metropolitan stations, and that they already want to begin. “We are referring to the two stations in Ajapnyak. In the future, construction will continue towards Davitashen.”

Civilnet asked questions about the details of these plans, however, the Yerevan municipality said, “As of right now, there are no more details about this aside from what Arthur Meschian said during his press conference on January 24th. We will announce details as they become available.”

Aravot asked Mayor of Yerevan Hayk Marutyan whether or not that was simply a populist announcement from Armenian authorities that has no preliminary stage or financial accounting. It seems that announcing they want to start their plans is too good to be true. Hayk Marutyan said in response, “That is not the case whatsoever. There are counts that were made in 1985.” When we observed that former Mayor Taron Margaryan could have announced plans to build new stations using those counts as a basis, Marutyan said, “We didn’t say that we will build them. We are simply starting work in that direction. There is a working group that is consistently working towards reaching that goal.”

Marutyan added that the two stations won’t be completed immediately within 2, 3, or 5 years.
