Several Armenian citizens gathered in front of the Ukrainian embassy in protest. They wrote a letter to the ambassador, asking him to follow up on Sergey Karapetyan and Khachatur Hovhannisyan, who are in jail in Ukraine and who are being tortured.
“We demand from the Ukrainian government that this torture is put to an end. Our compatriots have a public defender who is not following the case,” one of the protest organizers, Sargis Ter-Yesayan, told reporters.
Regarding information that this torture is the work Azeri authorities, one of the participants in the protest, freedom fighter Volodya Avetisyan said, “Azeri authorities are known to bribe people. There are several who are working in those jails. They are paid and ordered to beat people, and to slowly kill them, so that they cannot be released. We are convinced of this.”
A fight broke out between Armenians and Azeris in a Ukrainian city four years ago. One Azeri was killed. According to information from the media, the reason for the fight was due to the Azeri destruction of the stone crosses in Jugha, as well as destruction of other Armenian cultural sites. The court trial continues.
