A social survey was taken in Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor, Vayk, Yeghegnadzor, Martuni, and other parts of Armenia from July 1, 2018 until October 1, 2018. 800 citizens were questioned. The goal of this survey was to find out how Armenian society views several international organizations, such as the EU, NATO, CSTO, EAEU, as well as Russia.
According to the results of the survey, Armenian citizens trust the EU the most. 66.71 percent of those surveyed tie Armenia’s future with EU membership, whereas 33.29 percent view the EU negatively. 69.89 percent of Armenian citizens would consider it a good thing if Armenia were to join NATO, but 30.11 percent would be against such developments.
41.21 percent of Armenian citizens view Russia as an ally state of Armenia, but 19.10 percent do not. 39.70 percent view Russia as somewhat of an ally.
30.03 percent of citizens view strong relations with Russia as an obstacle in establishing good relations with the EU. 48.53 percent of Armenian citizens think that Russia has a positive impact on the Artsakh conflict resolution process. But 51.47 percent think that Russia has a negative impact. 32.36 percent believe that the CSTO does not uphold the security of Armenians. When asked if they believe that the CSTO would support Armenia if a war were to break out with Azerbaijan, 59.44 percent of participants said no. But 86.85 percent of Armenian citizens believe that the new Armenian authorities should focus on deepening relations with the European Union.
