‘Since the issue is not yet resolved, it is difficult to say that we have no worries’: Edmon Marukyan about meeting with Zohrab Mnatsakanyan

February 04,2019 20:37

Representatives of the Bright Armenia faction invited Minister of Foreign Affairs Zohrab Mnatsakanyan for a meeting. The meeting was closed. During this two-hour meeting, they mainly discussed issues in the current phase of the Artsakh conflict negotiations process. According to Edmon Marukyan, the meeting became necessary especially after Nikol Pashinyan’s and Angela Merkel’s press conference in Berlin, as well as after Nikol Pashinyan’s and Ilham Aliyev’s unplanned meeting.

Edmon Marukyan did not discuss the details of the meeting. “These sorts of meetings would be useless if I were to discuss all the details now. We called this meeting to get rid of our worries and to ensure that we would not have any new worries. We also voiced our opinions using information as a basis,” he said.

Reporters asked if they had received some sort of answer from Zohrab Mnatsakanyan as far as what this phase of the Artsakh negotiations process is based off of. Edmon Marukyan was never worried about Armenia after the April War, or of the frequent meetings the new members of government hold with the Azeri side. This is considered natural in a new phase. He also believes that this is better than gunshots. “But since the issue has not been resolved yet in the way we would like, it is difficult to say that we have no worries.”

Regarding the foreign policies of the new Armenian government, Edmon Marukyan said that it is still too early to speak about that.
