According to the Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov, the steps taken by Armenia and Azerbaijan recently aimed towards resolving the Artsakh conflict have promoted the decrease of tension in the region.
“The efforts of international intermediators and regional governments, as well as the increase in activity in discussions between the two countries, which are necessary in order to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict peacefully, have decreased tensions. The occasional meetings between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan have allowed for specific steps to be taken in order to strengthen trust,” the CSTO official said.
He considers the fact that the direct connection between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan was reinstated to be important. In this context, Sidorov emphasized the recent meetings between Pashinyan and Aliyev, the agreements they made, and the upholding of those agreements.
