‘Do not separate Armenian community from Syrian people’: Armenian deputy in Syrian parliament

February 11,2019 21:19

“The humanitarian help given to the Syrian people is welcomed,” Armenian deputy in Syrian parliament Jirair Reisyan told Aravot regarding the Armenian humanitarian group in Syria.

Regarding comments made by several political figures and experts that problems may arise for Armenia due to Russia’s financing of the humanitarian group, Jirair Reisyan only said, “Russia is a supporter and an ally of Syria. Syria’s government works with the Russian government.”

Regarding opinions that the Armenian community in Syria may be targeted by Islamists, the Armenian deputy emphasized, “The Armenian community is a part of the Syrian people. Therefore, it is not right to separate them from one another. If a group came to show support for the people of Syria, then it is not right to separate the Armenian community. The Armenian community is not under particular danger.”
