“I will not comment on that information after taking into consideration the confidentiality of the investigation, and the fact that a criminal case is being investigated,” Alexander Sargsyan’s lawyer Mihran Poghosyan said, answering Aravot’s question about who and under what circumstances was it decided how much money Sargsyan needs to pay the state.
This was asked due to the fact that the Armenian government gave the following response to a question by CivilNet: “As a result of various criminal cases and investigative operations against Alexander Azat Sargsyan, he voluntarily decided to transfer the equivalent of 18.5 million dollars to the state.”
Alexander Sargsyan’s lawyer did not deny nor confirm this information. He noted, “Demand an explanation from the people who made such an announcement.”
When we tried to clarify if it is legal to spread such information regarding a case that is still in the investigation phase, Poghosyan said, “Information about bank confidentiality in any circumstance is protected by the law, and receiving and spreading that illegally will make one be held responsible in accordance with the law.”
