Shirak is not a place for cheap labor: New governor presents new rules to investors

February 26,2019 20:40

The new governor of Shirak, Tigran Petrosyan, told Aravot Daily in an interview that he has already met with business owners to discuss possible investments in the Shirak region. The first meeting was with a Chinese delegation.

Aravot Daily observed that many investors want 50/50 shares. Petrosyan was asked how he can convince investors that the old habits are no longer in place. “We are presenting our new approaches, as well as the approaches of our state, our government, and our Prime Minister towards creating wealth in Armenia and making use of it. I think that the rules of the game are very important in business, and when the rules of the game are firmly in place, the business works in accordance to those rules. The rules need to be clear; business likes clarify. When there is clarity, the accounting, approaches, and understandings are also clarified, and that’s when action begins.”

“Now, when people come here, we present the fixed rules in the new Armenia, which include following the law, supporting the state through paying taxes, and creating jobs where people will receive dignified salaries. This is an important factor because we need to change the mentality that the region of Shirak, regardless of its problems with homelessness and unemployment, is a place for cheap labor. This needs to change. People need work and they need to be paid well for their work. They at least need to satisfy their basic needs with their salaries.”
