Armenia: EU support empowering young people in Gyumri

February 27,2019 13:08

On 23 February, the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski, visited a Youth House in the Armenian city of Gyumri, where he met the young people who use the house.

The centre offers young people in the city aged between 13 and 18 a wide range of services, including building life skills and professional skills for competitiveness in the job market, individual or group counselling, and non-formal and informal education.

The Youth House was established in the framework of the “Open youth work: Empowering young people in Gyumri” project co-funded by the EU and implemented within the Small Grant Scheme of the “Support to Civil Society Organizations Capacity Building” programme funded by the EU.

The project is implemented with the support of Gyumri Municipality. The organisation has also received another small grant to launch cycling tourism in Gyumri.

“I am very pleased to visit the centre today and see for myself how EU funding makes a difference to young people in Gyumri,” said Ambassador Świtalski. “I would like to see Gyumri grow as a cultural centre in Armenia and we need representatives from the young generation to make demands and come forward with creative ideas.”

The Youth House also serves as a platform for thematic discussions, seminars, trainings and collaboration among civil society organisations, schools, childcare centres, social services, police, municipality and other institutions, providing a wide range of accessible services.
