Lawyer Ara Ghazaryan, who is representing Armenian citizen Karen Ghazaryan in the European Court of Human Rights, the latter having been sentenced to 20 years in prison in Azerbaijan, will be presenting a new complaint to the ECHR regarding the trial that took place against Karen Ghazaryan. “We have worries that his right to having a free and fair trial was violated. They created a legend surrounding him in Azerbaijan and thus created a false criminal case,” Ara Ghazaryan told reporters.
He noted, “If Azerbaijan allows Karen Ghazaryan to have contact with the outside world, the legends of him being a “saboteur-terrorist” will be destroyed. The Red Cross is the only organization that can establish contact between Karen Ghazaryan and his family, but there are presumptions about how what a person whose right to freedom has been deprived says should be approached with caution. He says that he is doing fine, but we all have seen in pictures that he has lost weight.”
