Prime Minister: ‘My upcoming meeting with Aliyev will be devoted to making some clarifications’

March 19,2019 15:34

“This is neither capriciousness, nor is it a precondition. We are continuing discussions with our colleagues. We can soften our positions in areas where our colleagues believe that we have tough positions, but we will expect the same from the other side. Otherwise, there can be no discussion,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told reporters regarding the possibility of Artsakh returning to the negotiations table. He noted that this statement was not a challenge, but instead an invitation for discussions. “This began in Dushanbe and continued in Davos. We cannot imagine a regime where one of the sides refuses to negotiate. That is illogical. We will not refuse to negotiate and we will put our arguments on the table while closely listening to our colleagues’ counterarguments.”

According to the Prime Minister, the upcoming Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting will be dedicated to making some official clarifications. “There is a lot of conflicting data, for example, about what happened in Kazan or Vienna. I am required to have the answers to all questions. Aliyev has been negotiating for decades. I am the only new person. Many things are not clear for me, which is the purpose of discussions. That is why I said that I discussed the history of negotiations with Aliyev during our last meeting.”
