Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during a meeting with reporters, answered the question of whether the announcement he made during his visit to Iran that Armenia is prepared to act as a transit nation for Iranian and Turkmen gas means that a new pipeline will be built in Armenia, and if Russia, Turkmenistan, and Georgia agree with such a decision. “The same thing can be done with the same pipeline. We don’t have to build a new pipeline, we can do this with the one we already have,” Nikol Pashinyan said.
He said that he had spoken to the Prime Minister of Georgia, the President of Russia, and the President of Turkmenistan prior to his visit to Iran, and informed them of what he would be discussing. “It was important to know how interested Georgia and Turkmenistan were in such discussions. It was also decided as a result that this will be an important point in discussions with Iran. Discussions are continuing since we have not come to a positive or negative decision. There is interest.”
The Prime Minister said that Armenia needs to develop its collaborations with Georgia, Iran, Russia, and the EU. “We need to be initiators and have ideas. Such developments are also important for the stability of the region.”
