‘Set all silliness aside’: Armen Ashotyan on Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting

March 27,2019 17:32

Aravot Daily asked Vice President of the Republican Party Armen Ashotyan about the upcoming meeting between Pashinyan and Aliyev that is to take place on March 29th.

“I can assume that the head of government will be going to the meeting prepared. Although this will not be the first meeting- it will be the fourth- this will be the first meeting that has an official format. Therefore, all silliness needs to be set aside and the negotiations process needs to continue in such a way that is acceptable for all sides and for the Minsk Group co-chairs. If any shadows fall on the negotiations process, it must not be because of Armenia,” Ashotyan said.

According to him, “I have said many times that the desire to include Artsakh has always been a part of the plan and that it is a correct strategy. However, unfortunately, the wrong strategic steps were taken in an attempt to reach that goal, which has brought the kind of situation upon Armenia where it not only stands alone against Azerbaijan, but it also does not have the support of the Minsk Group co-chairs.”

According to Armen Ashotyan, it has unfortunately not been announced whether the Vienna, St. Petersburg, or Geneva agreements have remained a part of the agenda.
