Armenia to import cheap vegetables from Iran, and export beef, mineral water, fabric: new agreement

March 27,2019 19:35

The possible ratification of an agreement to create a free trade zone between the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran was discussed in the National Assembly.

The Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Investments, Albert Babayan, presented the agreement to the parliament. According to the agreement, transparent and non-discriminatory actions need to take place when exporting to the Iranian market. When the agreement is ratified, all sides need to present their demands for imports within six months. The member states of the EAEU have received a large list of products from Iran due to the agreement. This does not solely include agricultural products, but industrial products as well. The list of products that are exported from Armenia to Iran will be exported in large volumes, particularly beef, mineral and carbonated water, and non-alcoholic beverages. Babayan said that Iran has agreed to lower customs duties on products containing chocolate and cocoa. “For some of the products on the lists, it has been suggested that they should maintain the same customs duties. The products of interest that Armenia has presented on the list of exports include beef, fish, and honey. Iran has offered agricultural products such as potatoes, tomatoes, cabbage, tomato paste, cucumbers, apples, and apple juice.”

My Step deputy Vagharshak Hakobyan said that there is a huge potential for Armenia to be a transit country.
