Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with representatives of the Armenian community in Vienna and shared his impressions of his meeting with Aliyev.
“I can give our meeting a positive evaluation overall. I can’t say that there was some kind of breakthrough in the negotiations process, a revolution, or epiphany, but it is important that the kind of process began that will allow us to speak about our agendas, our ideas, and our problems, and to speak about the process which I spoke about in Stepanakert. I think this was a positive meeting, and I hope that Aliyev will also say the same. I do want to mention something, however. When I say that we had a positive meeting, this does not mean that anyone won or lost. It seems that, when two people meet, everyone tries to reach a conclusion on who won and who lost.”
Pashinyan said that after the meetings in Dushanbe, St. Petersburg, Davos, and Vienna, there was never an issue of who won or who lost. “Discussions began, and obviously, every side has their own opinion on different issues. Of course, this conflict has very deep roots. The most important thing for us to understand is that we aren’t dealing with a simple issue. This is a very serious problem, and I think that we need to mutually respond to this.”
