Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan and the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Liliane Maury Pasquier were present at the official ceremony during which the nameplate of Square of Europe was opened. Yerevan Mayor handed the PACE President the decision of the Council of Elders on naming the square. The Vice Speaker of the RA Parliament Alen Simonyan, the heads of foreign diplomatic representations, guests were present at the ceremony as well.
It should be noted that on March 19, the Council of Elders of Yerevan confirmed the draft decision according to which the square in the central part of Northern avenue is to be named Square of Europe.
The opening of the square is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Council of Europe.
