Pashinyan: ‘We have new visions for negotiations, it’s not understandable why Azeri side avoids accepting that reality’

April 02,2019 20:08

“I said that I need to receive several explanations regarding the Madrid Principles because I am new to the negotiations process. And of course, I spoke about this issue,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a Facebook livestream. The Prime Minister, speaking about the meeting with Aliyev in Vienna, assured that he spoke about these issues with Aliyev and the co-chairs, but he has not received a response yet due to the fact that these are loaded questions. Everything will not be resolved with one discussion.

Regarding the comments made by the Azeri side about the negotiations process, Pashinyan said that he has noticed that changes have not taken place in their comments, many of which are not realistic. “I think that there is a new atmosphere in the negotiations process. We have new things to say in this process, and we have new understandings of negotiations. And it is not understandable why the Azeri side is afraid to or refuses to accept that. These truths do not indicate the victory or loss of any side.”

Pashinyan said that including Artsakh in the negotiations process will not mean that Azerbaijan loses. “No negotiations can take place effectively if any essential side remains outside of the entire process. This is an indicator of our respect towards all sides of the conflict, and we want for all of our activities to be completely correct. If we want to resolve the Artsakh issue, if we want to reach a peaceful resolution, then the most important thing we can do is take all the necessary courses of action.”
