The Armenian biking team has a new member. For approximately a month, biker Karina Minasyan has been training under the supervision of head coach Armen Gyozalyan. Minasyan moved to Armenia from St. Petersburg, Russia.
Despite the biker’s age (she was born in 2000), she won a bronze medal in Europe during a team race in 2017 for the Russian team. When Edgar Stepanyan became the European champion last year in Switzerland, Karina Minasyan won a silver medal.
Armen Gyozalyan informed Aravot Daily that Karina’s family decided to move to Armenia, which is where Minasyan is currently. “Karina is training alongside Edgar Stepanyan and the rest of the team. She wishes to represent Armenia in the European and World championships, as well as in the World Cup. We are currently busy with getting her Armenian citizenship and an Armenian passport. As soon as this issue is resolved, she will begin to compete under the Armenian flag,” the coach said. Armen Gyozalyan also noted that Karina Minasyan’s results from competing on the Russian team will not transfer to the Armenian federation.
