The closed-door meeting between the Prime Minister and the My Step faction in parliament took place on the evening of April 8th.
After the meeting, Nikol Pashinyan spoke to reporters about his statements during the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union congress and about negotiations with Ilham Aliyev. “What did we expect from saying that the negotiations were effective? If we are to look at it from the perspective of the Artsakh issue not having been resolved, then the negotiations have not been effective. However, the joint statement made by the co-chairs and foreign ministers said that the meeting was positive and constructive. We all agreed to this.”
When asked about how Azerbaijan commented on Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan’s statement in the US by saying that Armenia wants war, the Prime Minister responded, “I’ve spoken about this many times. Don’t scare us with war because we aren’t afraid of it. The Defense Minister did not say anything illogical or unconstructive in his statement. If someone starts war, do people think that Armenia will surrender? No. We want the conflict to be resolved peacefully. We will do everything to bring the peace agenda forward. However, let no one think that we fear war when we speak about peace. We have as much to fear from threats of war as Azerbaijan. We do not need to speak about war before and after every meeting.”
