Aravot Daily asked head of the Supreme Judicial Council Gagik Harutyunyan about how members of parliament told the Prime Minister that the current Supreme Judicial Council is illegitimate since its members were chosen by the former parliament, which dissolved, and therefore, his own position is illegitimate.
Gagik Harutyunyan responded, “That parliament also chose the Prime Minister and the President, and our country needs to have institutional memory. You can’t have a destructive approach to everything. That is the wrong approach. Developments are needed. Deputies are there to express their opinions, but not every single thing they say should be put into effect.”
When asked about how representatives of the judicial system appealed to the court to argue against his legitimacy due to the fact that he is not of the appropriate age, Gagik Harutyunyan said, “There is no problem here that needs a solution. I will not comment on what the judges said or did. There is no legislation about this; such limits do not exist. There are no problems here.”
