“I am against closing all bookmaker offices because everything takes place online,” My Step faction deputy Hayk Sargsyan said during a session of the National Assembly Committee on Economic Affairs.
Vice Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan proposed a draft that would ban the operation of bookmaker offices in Yerevan and would only allow such offices in certain areas.
“I know people who would go to a bookmaker office once or twice a month to make bets, but now they can do it every day online,” Hayk Sargsyan said, pointing out that the problem is with the online platform.
Regarding the ban on underage individuals being able to make bets, Hayk Sargsyan said that that is not a very effective strategy, since any teenager can make bets. “For example, I was a teenager, I used an older friend’s ID to make a bet. Everyone has the same opportunity. There is no teenager who doesn’t have such a friend.”
