On the evening of April 15th, the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris went up in flames. It is one of the most visited and beautiful works of architecture in the world. The fire was put out at approximately 6 AM Yerevan time.
Various rumors began to circulate since a fire in one of the most significant symbols in Paris that is also a holy site raises doubt. According to one version of the story, the fire at the cathedral started due to the renovations taking place, but that seems to be disputable.
The Notre Dame Cathedral is part of the Archdiocese of Paris, and more than 12 million tourists visit it every year. French President Emmanuel Macron visited the burning cathedral and promised that it will be rebuilt thanks to the efforts of the best professionals. The French President also wrote on his Twitter page that he is sad to see this part of France burn.
Armenian journalist and resident of Paris Lusine Khachatryan spoke to Aravot Daily about what happened. She said that the news of the cathedral burning was shocking. “I was shocked because I first picture Charles Aznavour and Notre Dame when I think of Paris. Last year and this year, I went to Notre Dame for the Christmas mass, and it was very beautiful. And now I can’t believe that this gigantic, historical monument is in ruins. People from all over France come to see it, and it’s like it’s the last time they will ever do so. This was very hard for the Catholic community especially,” Lusine Khachatryan said.
