“I want to congratulate the Armenian government for its visible results in the fight against corruption. Armenia has become a completely different country over the course of the past year. Both the government and the people should be proud of this,” the European Union ambassador to Armenia, Piotr Switalski, said during a three-day conference titled “RA Anti-Corruption Strategy and Its Envisaged Mechanisms under International Experience.”
The ambassador said that recent events have shown that the risk of corruption still exists and that the government needs to begin and long and unyielding fight. “The EU is prepared to help Armenia in any way possible.”
Piotr Switalski considers the institutional aspect to also be important. “The Armenian government is discussing the possibility of the creation of an anti-corruption body. Some time will be needed in order to do this. This body needs to be strong and effective, and it needs to work together with law enforcement agencies. You can trust in us with this.”
According to the ambassador, Armenia needs a new public and societal culture that does not tolerate corruption. He also prioritized the fact that politicians have shown their willingness to fight corruption.
