The new United Arab Emirates ambassador to Armenia, His Excellency Muhammad Isa al-Zaab, and consul Ahlam Al Salami said in Gyumri that people of 200 different ethnicities live in their country, and there is also an Armenian community which consists of 6,000 Armenians.

Aravot Daily asked diplomats about what positions Armenians hold in the UAE, if they are mostly working in the business sector, and if there are any Armenians in the administrative sector.

“The Armenian community in the UAE is considered to be very old. Many Armenian families came after the Armenian Genocide and helped to build up the country and start businesses. I recently met an Armenian man in Yerevan who told me that he had been living and working in the UAE since the 1950s. He had a construction business in Sharjah and was considered to be a great investor. There are many business owners among the Armenians,” said Consul Alham Al Salami.

The new UAE ambassador to Armenia, His Excellency Muhammad Isa al-Zaab, spoke about goods turnover between Armenia and the UAE. “It reached 250 million dollars in 2017, and 180 million dollars in 2018. 111,500 Emiratis visited Armenia in 2018. We have direct flights to and from Armenia and 16 flights take place weekly. This plays a huge role in the increase of goods turnover between our countries.”

As far as what sectors people from the UAE plan to make investments in, the diplomats said that they are particularly interested in agriculture since it does not take long to get to Armenia- only 3 hours by plane.
