The Shengavit branch of the Court of General Jurisdiction published its decision on the case of former parliament member and former President of the Yerkrapah Volunteers’ Union Manvel Grigoryan. Judge Marine Melkonyan rejected Grigoryan’s lawyers’ appeal for allowing Grigoryan to be released on 10 million AMD bail.
Manvel Grigoryan’s lawyer Arsen Mkrtchyan said that the court’s decision did not come as a surprise and he predicted during the last session that the judge would reject the appeal.
According to Mkrtchyan, since this case has already been passed on to another court, this court would have come out of its limits of authority by accepting this intermediation. “Marine Melkonyan made a decision that was in accordance with the law and that was to reject the case. In this instance, upholding the case would have meant violating the law.
Arsen Mkrtchyan said that he can’t remember how many times it has been since the court has rejected his same intermediation. However, he believes that this was the only time the court had good reasoning to do so.
