Upon this 104th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the Heritage Party intends to continue to contribute to various platforms for international recognition of the Genocide and Great National Dispossession of the Armenian people committed in the Ottoman Empire beginning in 1915.

Over the decades at the heart of domestic and foreign policy of our sovereign and independent Republic of Armenia has been and must remain legal-official recognition of the Armenian Genocide in international influential instances, which is not only a tribute to the memory of one and a half million Genocide victims throughout Western Armenia and Ottoman Turkey, but also a protection of the interests of Genocide survivors, reaffirming the right of Armenians worldwide to have a homeland. Armenia, which is strengthened by democratic institutions, has more opportunities to succeed in this area.

Insufficient condemnation of Ottoman Turkey’s policy in 1915 caused the genocidal acts against Armenians by Azerbaijan for the period between 1988-1991 in Sumgait, Baku, Gandzak, Shahumyan and Getashen, which resulted in hundreds of thousands being killed, tortured and deported only because of their Armenian identity, Nakhichevan’s depopulation of Armenians was finalized.

Heritage is rightfully committed to defend the Armenian Cause at all levels for the sake of protecting the interests of our compatriots suffering from genocidal and xenophobic policies of Turkey and Azerbaijan. Being involved in influential international political organizations, such as the European People’s Party and the Centrist Democrat International, Heritage will continue its consistent activity in the political and diplomatic struggle for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. An integral part of this struggle should be the descendants of the survivors of the Genocide, with claims of compensation from Turkey in line with international legal norms.

The final purpose of the Armenian Genocide recognition in Ottoman Turkey in 1915 is not only recognition by the present Turkey of the Armenian Genocide, but also of its Right to Homeland.
