“Erdogan showed that he is sensitive towards April 24th in his statement,” First Deputy Mayor of Lyon Georges Kepenekian told reporters at the French Embassy in Armenia regarding Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s statement about how Armenians were deported because they had killed Muslim women and children in 1915.
According to the deputy mayor, even if Erdogan makes insulting or vulgar statements about the Armenian Genocide, he is still sensitive towards the topic. “He understands very well what happened in 1915. The international community needs to use Erdogan’s statement as a basis to consider that this process needs time if there is any hope to speak about this issue and make negotiations. There need to be two sides in negotiations, but Erdogan is stuck in his tower.”
