“If you hide behind the people and tell them to make a decision between options for victory or for loss, then you aren’t a politician,” Republican Party Executive Body member Gagik Minasyan said regarding Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s announcement at the Faculty of Economics at Yerevan State University about how the Armenian people have never stated how they wish for the Artsakh issue to be resolved and how no leader has tried to solve the issue in that manner. “When you send me to resolve the Artsakh issue, you aren’t telling me to resolve it in a particular way. Armenian society isn’t handing the Prime Minister a paper that lists all their demands and telling him how to operate.”
Gagik Minasyan said that a politician is someone who presents their own opinions on how to resolve a country’s most important issues and proof of why that is the correct approach. “This shows that we are not doing business with a politician who is willing to uphold their own viewpoint, even if they are to lose.” Minasyan added that if we were to think about how Armenia would hold a referendum, Azerbaijan would also hold a referendum and come to a conclusion. “What would we do then?” According to him, this will promote the creation of a deadlock.
