“Our opponent has not changed; it has stayed the same. Turkey was the same 104 years ago as it is today. It would have treated us the same if it were able to. Azerbaijan has not changed either,” President of the International Center for Human Development Tevan Poghosyan told reporters.
When asked about the reasons behind recent tensions at the border, Tevan Poghosyan responded, “If you remember, when something important would take place in Armenia, tensions would rise at the border; they would start to fire at us. If it hasn’t changed, that is probably the reason. Once, the EAEU conference was supposed to take place in Armenia, but its location was changed due to tensions at the border.”
Tevan Poghosyan advised everyone to look at the information that was spread after the gunshots were fired. “One or two days after those gunshots, Lavrov made a statement about the exchange of prisoners. We know that Azerbaijan will be using that to get their two saboteurs. Perhaps all of this is tied to that, or this is simply how Azerbaijan behaves. When it feels that Armenia has some advantage in any way, Azerbaijan increases tensions.”
According to Tevan Poghosyan, perhaps Azerbaijan wants to try and see what the international community’s response will be if it fires. Before the extensive shooting took place, Azerbaijan had already begun attacks in the media when their Minister of Defense said that Armenia has fired upon villages.”

Tevan Poghosyan, stating that the 25th anniversary of the ceasefire is coming up, said, “We need to be able to explain to the world what we mean by this. This is the biggest problem of the Armenian people. The current authorities can work efficiently, but it might not work out well. I don’t want such problems to only be problems for the authorities. NGOs, the media, and everyone else needs to work together.”
