“We have it de facto, but why can’t we have it de jure? If you have that agreement de jure, then that’s a great thing. It will expand Armenia’s opportunities and limitations, which is absolutely necessary,” the archbishop of the Artsakh Diocese and hero of Artsakh Pargev Martirosyan told reporters after the Armenia-Artsakh Strategic Alliance forum, responding to the question about how many people believe there has already been an alliance for a while.
Aravot Daily asked him about how some believe that such an alliance will make the situation worse due to the fact that Azerbaijan and the international community might act against it. Pargev Martirosyan said, “We are in a state of war. What could be a worse situation than this? Shots are fired every day at the border.” When asked why gunshots are being fired after a short time of peace, Pargev Martirosyan said, “I think that they lost hope that we will willingly compromise something. They understood that we operate using the same fundamentals.”
According to the archbishop, the Armenian side has not eliminated any part of the negotiations process, at least not on a diplomatic level. When asked if that would be possible after several victories are recorded, the archbishop said, “The issue is not with flexibility. No one wants to accept that, although there are exceptions such as Abkhazia, Ossetia, and Kosovo, where new things are being uncovered. In the end, we need to reach that level. The process is difficult, but we cannot falter. We have to firmly defend our rights. We need to move forward. It is a difficult road, but we need to move forward.”
