The jury of the 15th Khachaturian International Competition that is about to start on June 6, is comprised of eminent musicians that represent diverse music schools. The jury, that is going to be chaired by pianist and conductor Vag Papian, alongside numerous celebrated artists, features Russian acclaimed pianist, pedagogue, and professor of Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory Mikhail Voskresensky.

Voskresensky stated that he is delighted, that a competition named after the great composer Aram Khachaturian exists nowadays. “As a jury member, I will take into consideration the talent and the proficiency of the contestants while assessing their performances. There are no perfect or ideal musicians, the power of art is in the diversity of everyone”, the pianist marked.

It is natural that the contestant are nervous about performing in front of a jury. What is the great pianist’s advice? “Not only are the contestants but also authentic artists are anxious. They had better avoid anxiety, transfer their excitement to great finesse, and as Heinrich Neuhaus mentioned, warm heart must be controlled by a cool head”, Mikhail Voskresensky said.

The Russian pianist observed that he truly appreciates Aram Khachaturian’s art. “Khachaturian dedicated his Piano Concerto to my teacher Lev Oborin. Come as no surprise, I have known and admired his art since adolescence. When I was on my third year in Conservatory, I performed that piece for Aram Khachaturian himself. Later on, I have recorded it under the baton of Emin Khachaturian.

Reminder: Thirty pianists from 12 countries are going to take part in the competition. Khachaturian International Competition was held for the first time in 2003. The competition starts every year on the birthday of the composer – on June 6 and ends on June 14. It is the only competition in the region to have become a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions in 2013 and is aimed at revealing young talents in five specialties – “Piano”, “Violin”, “Cello”, “Conducting” and “Vocal”. The competition is held thanks to joint efforts of the RA Ministry of Culture, “Aram Khachaturian-Competition” Cultural Foundation with the partnership of the Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation of the CIS (IFESCCO).
