Lena Nazaryan: ‘This has nothing to do with Kocharyan’s case’

May 20,2019 17:32

Protests were being carried out by the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction in the Avan and Davtashen districts upon the request of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, Lena Nazaryan, was also present. She told Aravot Daily that all parts of society do not trust the judicial system and that everyone was waiting for changes to take place.

She does not agree with opinions that Pashinyan’s announcement and actions that took place in its aftermath were unconstitutional.

Robert Kocharyan’s lawyer, Hayk Alumyan, said, “Through his appeal on May 19th, the Prime Minister helped to confirm an important provision of our complaint through doing what I had presented to the European court as a worst-case scenario.” Lena Nazaryan, in regard to this, said that none of this has anything to do with Robert Kocharyan’s case.

According to the Vice Speaker, Pashinyan’s announcement and the following protests were not meant to put pressure on the courts. Nazaryan believes that this was simply an opportunity for judges to openly speak about issues in this sector.
