“There were several things I thought about on the way here with regards to how I would start my speech, but you predicted in your speeches that I should talk about something extraordinary and realistic. What is taking place in Armenia is a huge debate, and is extraordinary in and of itself. We can call it something between romanticism and reality,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at the beginning of his speech during the “My Step in the Syunik region” business conference.
According to him, “The word “extraordinary” has several symbolic meanings in our culture, including through Raffi’s famous story. Our political goal is to turn Armenia into a country where people believe in themselves and where they believe they can make their ideas into a reality. This is not just a statement, because what took place one year ago and what continues to take place today is the continuation of that ideal.”
The Prime Minister said that Armenia’s economic development needs to be based off of personal efforts and it does not matter what level of personal effort that takes. “Because everything that we have now started out as an idea.”
Pashinyan used the TaTever ropeway as an example, saying that it was an idea that several people came up with which later turned into a reality. “And it is difficult to say how many people believed in that idea and how many people didn’t. Economic development is based off of individuals. Of course, massive investment and the entrance of massive corporations into Armenia are also important, but I believe that those massive investments come after talented people. And we need to show that talented people live in our country, who not only are able to carry out their dreams, but also able to create an environment for other people to carry out their dreams. Talented people live in Armenia. Perhaps they don’t even know it. So our goal is to make sure they see and believe in that.”
