‘Azeri parliamentary deputy called upon people to kill Armenian Prime Minister and Defense Minister, then denied it’: Expert

June 02,2019 17:52

After the death of an Azeri military major, who was supposedly killed by Armenian gunfire, one of the executive secretaries of the ruling New Azerbaijan party, politician, and parliamentary deputy Aydin Mirzezade said, “I call upon our snipers to shoot Prime Minister and Commander in Chief Nikol Pashinyan and Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan when they visit the border.” Expert Taron Hovhannisyan spoke about this with reporters.

According to him, the incident at the border provoked an obviously aggressive statement by one of the deputies from the ruling party in Azerbaijan. “There is no logic in a deputy calling upon people to kill a prime minister and defense minister. Then he denied that he ever said such a thing; articles containing that information were removed. But then a video was spread around that proved he made that statement.”

According to Taron Hovhannisyan, such statements and the provocations initiated by Azerbaijan at the border prove that Azerbaijan has not changed its position at all and that it will continue to carry out provocative and aggressive measures. “The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group did not make any statement during their last visit about the deputy’s statement, despite the fact that it was necessary to do so.”
