‘If Grigoryan doesn’t become President of the Constitutional Court, he will have big problems’: Ani Samsonyan

June 26,2019 23:58

“The current judge of the Constitutional Court, Hrayr Tovmasyan, is completely considered to be a judge in accordance with all criteria,” Bright Armenia member Ani Samsonyan stated during a parliamentary briefing. The deputy does not consider any personal comments regarding constitutional norms to be acceptable.

“I think we need to refrain from making comments about who the judge of the Constitutional Court is and what the norms were that Vahe Grigoryan appealed. Only the Constitutional Court can comment on that. Grigoryan came to the legislative body and announced that he will take on the responsibility, but a few days have passed and he has not done so yet. If Grigoryan does not become the President of the Constitutional Court, he will have big problems.”

According to her, one individual cannot be the source of justice in Armenia, nor can they comment on constitutional norms and make their implementation mandatory.

Deputy Karen Simonyan added that Hrayr Tovmasyan was elected Constitutional Court President in accordance with the appropriate act. “So if Grigoryan believes that those acts are legally disputable, he can appeal to the Administrative Court.”

Regarding the arrest of the second president Robert Kocharyan, Ani Samsonyan said, “We are following the judicial trial that is taking place. Events will develop as the court makes its decisions. This is simply a judicial case.”

According to Karen Simonyan, competitive justice is taking place, and only time will tell what will happen next.
