Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan answered reporters’ questions during a joint press conference with the Maltese foreign minister. He spoke about Azeri Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mamedyarov’s press conference in Baku that took place on June 24th.
Mamedyarov spoke about his meeting with Zohrab Mnatsakanyan in Washington. He said that the co-chairs have presented a document for the sides to discuss. “I will say that we did discuss a wide range of issues. It was unique that our meeting took place during a time when we had some increase in tensions; it could not have had its impact until the meeting, of course. And of course, we spoke about those tensions intensely during our meeting and we also discussed the steps that need to be taken in order to decrease tensions so we can avoid any additional developments, which will make the situation worse,” Zohrab Mnatsakanyan said in response to a reporter’s question.
He continued, “We need to discuss the situation that took place until the tensions took place. That has a lot of importance. We have several initiatives here that the co-chairs have also pushed forward. I think that we will be able to have the sorts of conditions that will promote peace until our next meeting. Having an atmosphere that promotes peace is one of the most important issues for us. That atmosphere contains important ingredients including humane discussions, a decrease in propaganda, and a decrease in hatred.”
