Aravot Daily asked former Minister of Justice Davit Harutyunyan to comment on second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan’s court case, especially regarding the claims made by Kocharyan’s defense team that the judge did not listen to their objections.
“No matter who the individual is, when the accused and the plaintiff are deprived of their right to speak, there is no justice. It doesn’t matter whether it’s Kocharyan or another citizen. Therefore, to turn the judicial system and the implementation of justice into a game is detrimental to our country, I think,” Davit Harutyunyan said.
Aravot Daily asked him how he would evaluate the Court of Appeals’ decision to detain Kocharyan again. The reporter also asked about the possible developments that might take place since the Constitutional Court was supposed to decide on the case, but the judge recalled the case from the court. Could this cause a crisis? Harutyunyan responded, “There has never been a crisis in such instances. There are always solutions. All of that has been foreseen both in our constitutional laws and in our constitution. There is no reason to be worried in this case.”
