June 28,2019 21:04

On 26 June, the Armenian capital of Yerevan hosted a public discussion on the restoration of the rights of Armenians who have suffered from torture.

The discussion was timed with the International Day in Support of the Victims of Torture, marked on the same day.

In his opening remarks, Gonzalo Serrano, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Armenia, reaffirmed the EU’s support to the efforts of the Armenian government to reform the justice sector, as long as this is in line with the international best practice and standards.

He underlined that the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) binds the EU and the Armenian government to cooperate in ensuring human rights and fundamental freedoms, including the right to be free from torture.
