Armenia and Azerbaijan exchange imprisoned citizens

On Friday, June 28th, Armenia and Azerbaijan exchanged two imprisoned citizens due to the efforts of the Red Cross. 

The head of the communication programs of the ICRC delegation in Yerevan, Zara Amatuni, told Aravot Daily that the operation took place via the international route from Ijevan to Qazakh, Azerbaijan. 

The Azeri citizen was arrested on March 16th of this year, and the Armenian citizen was arrested on June 20th, 2017. 

Until the exchange took place, Zara Amatuni said that representatives of the ICRC frequently visited the individuals. 

The Red Cross did not release anyone’s identity, but the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, Artsrun Hovhannisyan, wrote on March 16th that the arrested individual was a resident of Qazakh, Azerbaijan named Elvin Arif oglu Hibragimov, born in 1986 according to documents that had been obtained. He had surgery on April 24th. 

Azerbaijan had arrested Zaven Karapetyan on June 20th. Azerbaijan declared that he was a saboteur, but Aravot Daily was informed that Karapetyan had been a cattle farmer in the Atan village of Lori.
