As a result of frequent fluctuations in electricity, the 5th block of the Hrazdan Thermal Power Station and the Yerevan Thermal Power Station were shut down at 13:46 Yerevan time, followed by several other smaller stations. Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Hakob Vardanyan spoke about this during a press conference.
“The reason for the fluctuations is not yet clear, but everything is stable now. There are no more fluctuations and the supply of power from the energy system is being worked on. As we all know, our energy system is connected to Iran’s energy system. We are impacted by every fluctuation, as are they,” the deputy minister said.
According to Vardanyan, it is likely that the powerful fluctuations were a result of an accident in the Iranian energy system. “We are in contact with our Iranian colleagues. They have confirmed that there was an accident around the same time. But I cannot say for certain that the fluctuations were from Iran at this time. A working commission will be formed to find out the cause, studies will be carried out, and we will find out who is to blame.”
Hakob Vardanyan added, “There is nothing dangerous at this time.”
